Ovary Sparing Spay & Vasectomy

We are pleased to offer Ovary Sparing Spays and Vasectomies to our pet families.

It has become increasingly obvious that many orthopedic developmental issues (including hip dysplasia and cranial cruciate rupture) and many cancers (including lymphosarcoma, hemangiosarcoma, osteosarcoma, transitional cell carcinoma, & mast cell cancer) can be greatly reduced by leaving the essential gonadal hormones in the body of our pets.

There is additional evidence that neutering may actually be responsible for some behavioral issues, rather than preventing them, as we have always assumed in the past.  This includes some aggression and anxiety issues, such as fear of storms.  In addition, the number one cause of metabolic diseases, obesity, is clearly linked to spaying.

However, there are some concerns about electing this procedure.  The risk of breast cancer is higher in dogs that retain their ovaries.  In addition, ovarian cancer, though very rare, is possible in such dogs.  The main concern is ‘stump pyometra’, a life threatening infection that occurs in dogs with incomplete or incorrect spays.  Therefore it is imperative that you chose a veterinarian with experience do perform the Ovary Sparing Spay on your dog.  For a list of veterinarians and additional information, see
